What is INUSpheresis® and How Does It Work?

INUSpheresis® is a cutting-edge, patented double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) system with regulatory approvals in the EU and China, and it has already been used in over 50,000 treatments worldwide. Proxima is pursuing FDA marketing approval for commercialization in the U.S. INUSpheresis® is specifically designed to gently and effectively remove pathogens, autoimmune complexes, inflammatory mediators, and environmental toxins from blood, tissues and organs while preserving the beneficial components of plasma.

How the Technology Works:

The INUSpheresis® process involves placing an IV line in each arm. Blood is gradually drawn from the body and passed through a plasma filter, which separates it into blood cells and plasma. The blood cells are immediately returned to the body, while the plasma undergoes further purification through a plasma fractionator to remove harmful substances. The purified plasma is then gently reheated and reinfused back into the body. This entire procedure typically takes 2-3 hours, after which patients are advised to rest for 24 hours before resuming normal activities.

Customized Protocols for Different Conditions:

Over the past 20 years, INUSpheresis® has been refined to address various disease states through tailored protocols. These protocols are continuously updated and improved as new data is collected, ensuring optimal outcomes for different patient needs.

Conditions Treated with INUSpheresis®

INUSpheresis® is currently marketed in the EU for the treatment of a variety of conditions where the removal of pathogens, autoimmune complexes, inflammatory mediators, and environmental toxins from the blood can provide therapeutic benefits. These conditions include:

  • Autoimmune Diseases: Such as multiple sclerosis, where the reduction of circulating immune complexes can help manage symptoms and reduce flare-ups.

  • Atopic Skin Diseases: Including psoriasis and eczema, by targeting inflammatory mediators contributing to skin flare-ups.

  • Cardiovascular Diseases: Such as arteriosclerosis, where INUSpheresis® can help reduce plaque-forming lipids and inflammatory substances.

  • Chronic Infections: For example, Lyme disease, where the removal of pathogens and immune complexes may support recovery and symptom management.

  • COVID-19: As an adjunct therapy to reduce inflammatory cytokines and other harmful substances in severe or long COVID cases.

  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS): By removing potential inflammatory triggers and pathogens, INUSpheresis® may help alleviate fatigue and related symptoms.

  • Neurodegenerative Diseases: Including Alzheimer’s disease, where reducing inflammatory markers and oxidative stress could help manage disease progression.

  • Peripheral Neuropathy: Such as that caused by rheumatoid arthritis or other inflammatory conditions, by reducing circulating inflammatory factors.

  • Macular Degeneration: By improving microcirculation and reducing inflammatory mediators that contribute to retinal damage.

  • Metabolic Disorders: Related to the liver or kidneys, where removing toxins and metabolites can aid in restoring metabolic balance.

  • Tinnitus: Potentially alleviating symptoms by improving blood flow and reducing inflammation in the auditory system.

Substances Filtered from Blood Plasma with INUSpheresis®

INUSpheresis® is designed to selectively remove a wide range of harmful substances from blood plasma, targeting pathogens, autoimmune complexes, inflammatory mediators, and environmental toxins that contribute to various diseases. This advanced technology is being marketed in the EU to filter out:

  • Inflammatory Mediators: Such as Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), RANTES (CCL-5), C-reactive Protein (CRP), and Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M), which are associated with inflammation and autoimmune conditions.

  • Immune Complexes: Including pro-inflammatory cytokines and auto-antibodies, which can contribute to autoimmune diseases and chronic inflammatory states.

  • Pesticides: Such as Lindane, PCP, and HCB, which are persistent environmental pollutants linked to various health issues.

  • Plasticizers: Including Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), which are industrial chemicals known to disrupt endocrine function and cause other health problems.

  • Benzenes and Solvents: Such as Trimethylbenzene, Toluene, Xylene, and Dichloromethane, which are common environmental toxins found in various industrial and household products.

  • Heavy Metals: Including Cobalt and Nickel, which can accumulate in the body and lead to toxicity and organ damage.

  • Toxins: Such as Amalgam, Mercury, Aluminum, and Silicones, which can contribute to neurological, immunological, and other systemic health issues.

  • Lipids: Including harmful cholesterol forms like Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL), triglycerides, lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), and Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], which are associated with cardiovascular diseases.

  • Pathogenic Proteins: Such as Asymmetric Dimethylarginine (ADMA), a marker linked to cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

  • Immunoglobulins: Including IgA, IgG, IgM, and others, which can play a role in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

INUSpheresis® offers a comprehensive approach to blood purification, targeting a broad spectrum of harmful substances to support overall health and well-being.
